A Lafayette man was arrested Monday after leading police on a high-speed chase that reached more than 140 mph and crossed multiple jurisdictions in Jefferson Davis Parish, according to the Jennings Police Department.
Jamari Mallery, 22, is charged with aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation of a vehicle and driving without a license. His bond had not been set.
A Jennings police officer conducting traffic enforcement spotted a silver Infiniti sedan traveling west on Interstate 10 near the Jennings exit around noon, police said. The car was allegedly weaving through traffic at more than 100 mph.
When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to pull over and accelerated to more than 140 mph, police said. During the pursuit, the driver allegedly used the interstate's right shoulder to pass other vehicles.
The chase continued through multiple jurisdictions with assistance from several law enforcement agencies. Police said the driver maintained speeds exceeding 130 mph on several roadways, including Louisiana Highway 26 through the Jennings business district.
The pursuit ended on Louisiana Highway 102 near Richard Road, north of Jennings, where Mallery was taken into custody.
Investigators said Mallery told them he fled because he believed officers would not try to stop him after he passed them at such a high rate of speed.
The investigation is ongoing.
