A Lake Charles man accused of stealing from a Scott store led police on a high-speed chase that ended when he flipped his vehicle in a convenience store parking lot, according to the Scott Police Department.

Gregory Thibodeaux, 49, was apprehended near Carencro after the crash and booked into the Lafayette Parish jail on counts of theft, aggravated assault and aggravated flight from a police officer, a news release stated.

Police first responded to the business in the 5600 block of Cameron Street after someone reported a white man was stealing things, the release stated, adding he stole $45 worth of items.

Thibodeaux was leaving the parking lot when police arrived "in an obvious attempt to escape," according to the release.

Thibodeaux remained in jail on Wednesday afternoon in lieu of a $75,000 bail amount.
