New upgrades have hit LSU campus’ dining scene, including fresh changes to the 459 Commons and the addition of a food-service spot that serves mocktails.

The new food service spot, Tiger Traditions, opened on Nov. 6 of last year inside the Student Union and uses a kiosk-operated ordering system. The menu features Louisiana classics like po-boys, boudin balls, burgers and bread pudding, and it also serves four mocktails: Mockarita, Mockjito, Strawberry Mock-quiri and Tiger Lemonade.

With 45 seats inside, Tiger Traditions doubles as an entertainment hub, hosting a variety of events like BinGEAUX Nights, gameday watch parties and pop-ups.

Deli Laville is location inside of 459 Commons and serves custom sandwiches.

The dining hall on the east side of campus, the 459 Commons, was closed and under construction all of summer 2024, reopening on Aug. 17 that year. The renovations took into account the collective feedback from LSU Dining’s student surveys each semester.

“Based on the results of more than 1,400 student surveys, we developed a plan with our partners, LSU Dining, to give students greater visibility into how their food was produced, a more open floor plan and more ties to LSU culture and community,” LSU Assistant Vice President, Auxiliary Services Margot Hsu Carroll said.

The dining hall now has a more open-concept floor plan with different varieties of seating and more natural lighting, Carroll said. The renovations also added five new food stations.

“We know from our student surveys that students were very, very interested in having local cuisine,” Carroll said.

JJ’s Camp, named after Senior Executive Chef Jon Jackson, will serve Louisiana specialty foods. There’s also a new, all-day breakfast station in response to student requests.

At another food station called Roux, students can find homestyle dishes. At Deli Laville, students can mobile order custom sandwiches through Transact Mobile Ordering. They then scan a QR code upon their arrival, where their sandwich is made fresh to order.

A new allergen station opened on Feb. 1 and it has its own kitchen area so all of the preparation and cooking is contained in the station.
