Louisiana Public Broadcasting offers an update on the state's ongoing coastal restoration efforts in "Building Barriers: Exploring the Future of Louisiana's Coast" at 8 p.m. Monday.
An installment of the network's "Louisiana Ůvlog" series, the 60-minute program will air on LPB’s statewide network and on WLAE-TV in New Orleans.
After decades focused on large-scale sediment diversions as the foundation of its strategy, the state's restoration priorities have begun to shift.
"From the impacts of Mardi Gras Pass in Pointe à la Hache to restoration projects on Raccoon Island and the Chandeleur Island chain, 'Louisiana Ůvlog: Building Barriers' examines the science, politics, and people behind Louisiana's evolving approach to restoration," according to an LPB news release. "As the state places greater emphasis on barrier islands, marsh creation, and shoreline protection, the documentary explores the challenges and tradeoffs shaping the next chapter of coastal restoration."
