A former master sergeant at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center was arrested Tuesday, adding to a string of correctional officers taken into custody over alleged misconduct or failures to do their duty at the facility.
Amiya Jones was arrested on a count of malfeasance in office Tuesday by deputies with the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office.
She had been with the Louisiana Department of Corrections since August 2025, but is no longer an employee following her arrest, according to a release from LDOC.
No further info has yet been released.
More than a dozen officers at Elayn Hunt have been arrested on malfeasance or contraband charges since the start of the year.
The arrests are the result of what appears to be a coordinated crackdown on employee behavior since Warden Travis Day began overseeing the St. Gabriel facility in January. More than 30 civilians visiting the facility have also been arrested in the same period.
A state police investigation into Elayn Hunt is also ongoing, due to both the arrests and an accompanying increase in inmate deaths at the facility.
