A woman died after her vehicle struck the rear of an SUV stopped on Nicholson Drive near Innovation Park Drive on Thursday morning, Louisiana State Police said.
Troopers began investigating the crash around 2:40 a.m. A Ram pickup truck was stopped on the side of the road after it had become disabled. A 2013 Cadillac Escalade had stopped in the northbound travel lane a short time later to assist the truck when a Kia K4 slammed into the rear of the SUV, according to State Police.
The driver of the Kia, Madison Marshall, 19, sustained severe injuries and was transported to a hospital where she died. Marshall was unrestrained at the time of the crash, according to State Police.
The driver of the Cadillac was also unrestrained, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital.
Impairment is not suspected, but routine toxicology samples will be run.
