The East Flanacher Road Bridge in Zachary will be replaced in a five-month project that begins Monday, the East Baton Rouge city-parish Department of Transportation and Drainage said.Ìý

The bridge, which is located about a mile west of Old Scenic Highway and carries traffic over a canal, "is in poor condition and requires replacement," according to information about the project on .Ìý

The aging bridge will be replaced with a new and safer design to preserve the route for drivers going from U.S. 61 to La. 964.

Work is expected to be completed by mid February, the city-parish said.Ìý

While the bridge work is going on, drivers will be directed to alternate routes including Samuels Road, Mount Pleasant-Zachary Road and Old Scenic Highway.Ìý
