With , early voting for the upcoming election has been suspended until Saturday.
Gov. Jeff Landry issued an executive order to suspend in Cameron Parish on Wednesday and Thursday due to projected severe weather, Secretary of State Nancy Landry said in a Wednesday news release.
Cameron Parish is expecting impacts from as well as other forecast thunderstorms expected to hit the southwest Louisiana region throughout the remainder of the week.
“Early voting in all other parishes will proceed as scheduled on Thursday, June 18,” the release states. “Polls will be closed statewide on Friday, June 19, for the Juneteenth holiday, and will reopen on Saturday, June 20 for the final day of early voting.”
The ballots in Cameron Parish feature only the U.S. Senate runoffs for Republicans and Democrats.
“Voters are encouraged to stay informed for any additional weather advisories, updates or office closures,” the release states. “Candidates or voters with questions regarding these changes may call the Elections Hotline at 800-883-2805.”
