What inspired you to open a children’s boutique?Back in 2019, I was pregnant with my daughter Lillian, and I found myself truly enjoying quality apparel and finding quality apparel for her. Fast-forward to her being three months old and Covid hit. I had to resign from my corporate job and become a stay-at-home mom to protect her from illness. I still had a love for children’s apparel and I decided, why not turn this passion into a business?

What sets Lilly & Jace apart from other retailers, especially large chains?Customer service and quality. I enjoy spending time with and assisting each customer that walks through our doors. I always want everyone to feel comfortable and happy! Shopping with us a one-of-a-kind experience. When it comes to what we sell, I take pride and time in finding quality apparel for children. It’s a plus if the designer is here in Louisiana. We have some fantastic local brands!

What are some of your most popular items?LSU, all day, every day. We have the biggest children’s LSU section in Baton Rouge. We carry sizes from newborn to youth large in our LSU apparel. We’re LSU fans ourselves. Our customers love coming in to dress their family for all the game days!

How do you create a welcoming environment for shoppers?I train my employees to understand that each person that walks through our doors is special. We always want to give them out utmost attention and cater to their needs. Even if someone is just browsing, we let them know that we’re here to help if they need anything and we thank them for stopping by! I also cannot forget to mention our treasure chest basket. Our frequent visitors love running to pick out a new prize when they visit!

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned as a business owner?That it takes a village to function. When I first opened the store, I was eight months pregnant. It seemed doable until a few weeks later. I gave birth to Jace and I was back at the store one week postpartum with Jace as a newborn in the store with me. Jace came to work with me every day until he was four months old. That first year was TOUGH. I had to lean heavily on my husband and parents to help when they could. Three years later, there are still days when you’ll see Lillian or Jace in the store and my wonderful employees playing with them. My employees are a part of my little village and I couldn’t be where I am today without them and my family!
