Trick or treat hours for the city of Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31, the office of Mayor-President Sid Edwards said.

The mayor's office shared some safety tips for trick or treating:

Plan ahead: Map out your route before heading out. Stick to familiar, well-lit areas, and let someone know your plans and expected return time.

Be seen: Choose bright or reflective costumes and carry flashlights or glow sticks to help drivers spot you after dark.

Check treats: Inspect all candy and snacks before eating. Discard anything that’s unwrapped or looks suspicious, and be mindful of potential allergens.

Stay on sidewalks: Walk, don’t run, and use crosswalks when available. Avoid cutting across yards or streets in the dark.

Buddy up: Trick-or-treating is safer in groups. Children should always be accompanied by a trusted adult.
